Oregon, Idaho wrestlers converge on Nyssa High School for annual Calhoun Classic

NYSSA – Six local girl wrestlers recorded top finishes at the annual Calhoun Classic wrestling tournament held at Nyssa High School on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10.
More than 40 girls and boys wrestling teams competed.
Vale High School’s Ava Collins won in the girls 145-pound weight group by defeating Clare Waite of Boise High School 9-3. Monica Ibanez clinched third place for Nyssa at 145 pounds.
Ontario’s Hannah Hernandez won the 155-pound weight class by defeating Ornella Kero of Boise High School 5-4.
Also, at 155 pounds, Vale’s Jessica Williams finished fourth.
Four Rivers Community School’s Lacatia Mason was second at 105 pounds, losing by fall to Nia Avelino of Caldwell in the championship match.
In the 115-pound girls weight group Vale’s Jaycie Hackler finished fourth.
In girls team standings, Caldwell took first with 287 points, Fruitland was second with 235 and Kuna was third with 234.
Vale finished ninth in girls team standings with 116 points while Nyssa was 11th with 104 points, Ontario was 12th with 91 points and Four Rivers Community School 19th with 23 team points.
In boys team scores, Fruitland finished in first place with 195 points while Middleton was second with 163 and Kuna third with 138.
The Nyssa boys wrestling team was 13th with 44 points, while Ontario was 15th with 26 points and Vale 19th with 15 points.
Ontario’s Nikolas Sigrah finished second in the boys 195-pound weight group, losing 2-1 to Kody Biggs of Kuna in the championship contest.
Nyssa’s Jesse Aragon also finished second in the 285-pound weight class, losing to New Plymouth’s Hunter Williams by fall in the championship final.
Vale’s Kase Schaffeld finished fourth in the 170-pound weight group.
