Good crowd, active bidders show up for annual Vale FFA auction

Those with a sweet tooth were well served at the annual Vale FFA auction.

One bidder won an ice cream cone every week for a year.

Another bidder won a fresh-made pie – and tubs of homemade ice cream.

And one bidder got a jump on Halloween with a pan of cupcakes.

In all, about 90 bidders joined in the number-raising on Saturday, Oct. 15, in the auction that raises money for FAA scholarships.

Teri Doran, one of the organizers, said Monday that the event netted about $29,000 – better than last year and one of the top auctions in 10 years.

“We so appreciate the many donors and amazing supporters,” Doran said.

The auction was conducted by the team from Baker Auction, with auctioneer Sam Baker using his blend of humor and auction chanting to tease out every dollar he could.

Items ranged from a hand-made men’s wallet to two tons of hay.

The weather was ideal and the crowd remained enthusiastic throughout the day. The Malheur County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team set up their cook shack, dishing out $4 burgers.
