Coming up: History speaker looks at Masons in Malheur territory

A history talk, a children’s play, a cornhole tourney and a scarecrow contest are among the events packing the Malheur County calendar. Here’s a look at the array, plus some local meetings:

HISTORY: Gary Faw will speak about the history of the Masonic Lodge in the region at the Thursday, Oct. 13, meeting of the Malheur Country Historical Society, at the Vale Senior Center. 

The lunch costs $10 and is served starting at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Organizers also are getting ready for the Society’s annual banquet meeting, set for Nov. 10, also at the Vale Senior Center. Reservations are required, and a sign-up sheet will be available at the October lunch.

DALMATIANS: The Four Rivers Children’s Community Theater will stage Disney’s “101 Dalmatians KIDS” with two shows a day from Oct. 20 through Oct. 21. Showtime is 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $5.

The production features kindergarten through fifth-grade students from across the Treasure Valley.

CORNHOLE: CASA of Eastern Oregon offers a cornhole tournament, plus a potato bar and a silent auction, on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Ontario. 

The action starts at 10 a.m. at the Elks Lodge. Teams can register by calling 541-212-7717.

SCARY: The Nyssa Scarecrow Contest is on, and entries due Oct. 25 at the Chamber of Commerce. Judging in the annual Halloween décor event will be Oct. 28. 

Businesses, groups and residents are encouraged to create displays and enter the competition. Forms are available from the Nyssa Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.
