Superman and Superwoman are coming to local towns next week, parading through communities with candy and other favors to help celebrate Halloween in a new way.
The staff of Four Rivers Cultural Center is planning the two-hour “pop-up” parades that will feature costumed workers and volunteers, Halloween music and what the center is calling “parade favors.”
The favors will include candy, glow sticks and the emblems of the current pandemic – hand sanitizer and fliers on anti-Covid protocols.
And in a contest, parade-goers are encouraged to dress up in their own costumes and stand on sidewalks while observing social distancing. Photos will be taken along the route of those in costume to be posted on the Facebook page of the cultural center.
Later, winners will be selected at random from among children and adults wearing costumes. The winners will be announced on Halloween – Saturday, Oct. 31.
“All the staff and volunteers will be super heroes,” said Tanya Navarette, marketing director for the center. She will be dressed as Superwoman and Matt Stringer, the center’s executive director, will transform into Superman.
The schedule for the parades:
Vale – Tuesday, Oct. 27, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Nyssa – Wednesday, Oct. 28, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Ontario – Thursday, Oct. 29, 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“We believe there are no barriers when it comes to connecting and caring for the community,” the center said in its announcement of the parade. “And in a time where our engagement opportunities are limited we are fulfilling this promise by bringing the programming directly to you.”
