NYSSA NEWS: Tree lighting, parade, concerts and more

What a game! Congratulations to the players and coaches of the Adrian/Jordan Valley football team on winning the 1A football state championship last Saturday. The stands were filled with fans from both communities cheering for the Antelopes, it was great to see such support of the team. 

Again, congratulations!

• Two Rivers Park in Adrian is the site for the 2nd Winter Festival this Saturday. The bazaar opens at 4 p.m. with food and shopping. Santa arrives at the gazebo at 6:30 p.m. and will be available for photos. At 7 p.m., the park will be lit up with lights on the first row of trees and the Christmas tree, followed by a live nativity. 

Two Rivers Park is owned by Owyhee Watershed with Adrian 2040 working with them to light up all the trees in the park. Donations are being accepted to pay for the lights. To help with this effort, make your check payable to Adrian School District Park Lights.

• Saturday there are several Christmas season activities in Nyssa. The lighting of the Christmas tree will be at 4:30 p.m. at Thunderegg Memorial Park, followed by the parade at 6 p.m. 

At 5 p.m., Nyssa Christian Fellowship will be set up next to the food bank building with hamburgers, hot chocolate and cider. Following the parade there will be a live nativity. The church also has winter clothing for those in need. After the nativity, they will distribute wrapped toys for children, ages infant to age 12, who may not receive other Christmas gifts. 

• The Nyssa Library will be open late on parade night with hot chocolate and cider. They also have bookmarks for sale, which make great stocking stuffers, used books and CDs for sale and a raffle. From 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, the library will host a Christmas card making class for ages 12-100. (Ages 12-14 must be accompanied by an adult). 

If you are looking for Christmas craft or recipe ideas, the library has several books with ideas and recipes to help make your Christmas merry and bright.

• Coming up at the Nyssa Senior Center on Saturday, the monthly dance featuring the Dale Borge Band takes place from 6-9 p.m. Participants are asked to bring an item for the potluck. 

The center’s monthly meeting is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, followed by a Christmas potluck lunch. Participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert; meat, potatoes, gravy and dressing are provided.

• Mark your calendars and plan to attend upcoming music concerts at Nyssa High School featuring middle and high school students. The band concert takes place on Monday, December 9; the choir concert will be held on December 16. Both start at 7 p.m. in the Nyssa High School auditorium.
