ADRIAN – The Antelopes used just seven minutes to put its Class 1A eight-man playoff game on ice Friday night.

Adrian scored five touchdowns in the first quarter on the way to a 70-0 victory over Butte Falls/Crater Lake Charter Academy.

The home team never trailed and Antelope quarterback Conley Martin tossed for two touchdowns and ran for four more as Adrian rolled over the Butte Falls.

“We came out and took care of business,” said Adrian lineman Wes Bayes.

Antelope Michael Babcock piled up 181 yards and scored two touchdowns while teammate Wade Bond added two scores.

The win sets the Antelopes up for a second-round playoff game against Hosanna Christian Saturday at 2 p.m. at Adrian. The Lions are 9-0 and ranked seventh by the Oregon School Activities Association but, more importantly for the Antelopes, they remain a piece of unfinished business from the 2018 season. The Lions bounced Adrian from the post-season last year, posting a 46-36 quarterfinal win. The Lions were already a focus for Bond after the game Friday.

Bond said the memory of the 2018 loss still stings.

“Walking off the field, it just sucked,” said Bond.

Antelope coach Bill Wortman wasn’t focused on last year or even the just-ended contest with Butte Falls after Friday’s game.

“We are looking forward to playing a good team,” said Wortman about Hosanna Christian. Against Butte Falls, the Antelopes showed why they are 10-0 and ranked second by the OSAA. Adrian used a deadly combination of speed and precision on both offense and defense to forge the win. The Antelopes took control just minutes into the first quarter on Martin’s 65-yard touchdown run. Butte Falls fumbled on its next possession and two plays later Bond’s touchdown reception put the Antelopes ahead 16-0. Michael Babcock’s touchdown with four minutes left in the quarter gave Adrian a 22-0 advantage. Martin and Babcock each added a touchdown before the end of the first frame and Adrian held a 36-0 lead. While there remained three more quarters to play, the game was over. Adrian built a 64-0 lead at halftime and Wortman pulled his starters in the second half.

Adrian’s stingy defense allowed Butte Falls 124 total yards for the game while Kort Skinner and Blaise Warn had one interception apiece. Sebastian Munoz claimed two sacks for Adrian.
