Elizabeth Helen “Effie” Tucker

February 3, 1954 ~ July 27, 2019

Elizabeth Helen Tucker was born Feb. 3, 1954, in Ontario, Oregon, the daughter of Shirleigh Denton Tucker Jr. and Elizabeth Mary Jones Tucker.

She passed away July 27, 2019, at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise from complications of cancer. Elizabeth was always called “Effie” by those who loved her, a nickname given to her by her older sister Virginia, who as a 2-year-old couldn’t say Elizabeth. Effie was raised on the family ranch below the Malheur Reservoir and in Brogan. She attended Brogan Grade School and was the salutatorian of the Vale High School Class of 1972. Effie married Jon Dawley on Dec. 8, 1976, in Winnemucca, Nevada. They were divorced in 1996. Their only child, Caroline Elizabeth Dawley, was born Oct. 8, 1982, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Effie remained a devoted mother to Caroline her entire life. Effie graduated from Eastern Oregon University and at the time of her death was a sixth grade teacher at May Roberts Elementary School in Ontario. Education was her passion, whether working in the Vale School District or the Ontario School District. She loved her students and expected their best at all times.

Effie Tucker is survived by her daughter Caroline Dawley of Enterprise, Oregon; sister Virginia Romine (Jim) of Waitsburg, Washington; brother William Tucker (Denine) of Vale; nephews Douglas Tucker (Randi) of Weiser, Idaho, Jon Dentinger (Erin) of Vale, Frederick Tucker (Heather) of Cody, Wyoming, Jarrod Tucker (Sarah) of Vale, and Matthew Tucker of Homedale, Idaho; nieces Kathleen Phillips of Vale, Gwendolyn Dentinger of Waitsburg, Hayley Beck (Brian) of Ontario, and Emma Tucker of Vale; great-nephews Ty Jordan (Anna) of Wasilla, Alaska, Kyle Jordan (Michaela) of Independence, Oregon, Charlie Judy of Nampa, Idaho, Jack and Brodey Tucker of Weiser, Gage Mynear of Waitsburg, and Dawson Tucker of Vale; great-nieces Josie Tyler of Waitsburg, Michaela Phillips of Anchorage, Lyndin, Allisyn, & Reagan Dentinger of Vale, Lucy and Hadley Tucker of Weiser, and Oakley Tucker of Cody; and great-great-nephew Brogan Jordan of Wasilla. She was preceded in death by her parents Shirleigh and Elizabeth Tucker and her brother Denton Lester Tucker.

Graveside services will be held at the Brogan Cemetery in Brogan, under the arrangements of the Yraguen Funeral home on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. MDT. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone who wishes to, please make contributions to May Roberts Elementary School, Attn: Marshall Hooker, Principal, 590 NW 8th Street, Ontario, OR, 97914, to assist classroom teachers in purchasing supplies for their classrooms. That is what Effie would have wanted.
