Glenn R. Smedley 

April 13, 1931~July 9, 2019

Glenn was born April 13, 1931, in Fall River Mills, California. He relocated to Orick, California, and grew up at Prairie Creek Fish Hatchery where his father was the superintendent. Glenn married his wife Gretchen Jepsen May 18, 1952, and went on to have four children.

Glenn served four years overseas in the US Navy. He returned home and worked in the logging industry as a faller. Throughout his years living in Del Norte County, Glenn distinguished himself in the business community as a local business owner.

Glenn went to serve his community as a Supervisor of the 4th District in which he first was elected in June 1974. Glenn served many terms as a supervisor in the Del Norte Board of Supervisors and also as the Chief Executive Officer of the Crescent City Harbor District. During his public service, Glenn was a member of the Regional Council of Rural Counties, State Association of Counties and the Del Norte Community Economic Revitalization team. Glenn volunteered and was an integral part of Cal-Ore Fish Enhancement Derby.

Glenn retired from his service of Del Norte County in 1994 and moved to Willowcreek, Oregon, where he lived out his retirement days enjoying his hobbies of hunting, fishing, and gardening, Glenn was a devoted and loving family man and enjoyed hosting gatherings for his friends and family. Glenn is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gretchen; children Monte Smedley, Stephen Smedley, Rusty Smedley, Melinda Fay; grandchildren Megan Fay, Dustin Fay, Matthew Smedley, Ashton Smedley, Madison Smedley; and great-grandchild Nathaniel Hemmingsen, along with numerous other close family and friends. 

Service will be held at Willowcreek Church in Willowcreek at 1 p.m. July 27.

Deaths:

Paul W. Ivester, 90, of Fruitland, died July 16 at a Fruitland care facility. Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Payette.

Clinton Kennington, 70, of Fruitland, died July 19 at his home. Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Ontario.
