The Mexican-American Citizens League recently awarded college scholarships to six Malheur County high school graduates.
Awards ranged from $500 to $2,000.
The group received 15 applications this year. The application is open to high school seniors in Adrian, Nyssa, Vale and Ontario.
To be considered, students had to send in their applications and two recommendation letters. They must be of Latino descent and have at least a 3.0 grade point average.
Jennifer Paz Santos from Vale High received a scholarship this year. The rest of the winners came from Ontario High: Leslie Silva, Jessica Vásquez Rodríguez, Daniel Ismael Rodríguez, Jasmine Romero and Brenda Díaz Matías.
The League, founded 35 years ago, has been giving scholarships to county students for at least 15 years.
