ONTARIO – Treasure Valley Community College is seeking someone to fill a vacancy following the resignation of a newly elected board member.
Matt Sorensen, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Treasure Valley, was unopposed in his bid for a seat on the TVCC board in the May election. He was elected to the post that had been held by board chairman John Forsyth, who did not seek re-election.
However, days before the election, Sorensen accepted a job in Eugene as the executive director at the Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley.
The college board is now seeking candidates to fill the board seat. To be eligible, candidates must be registered voters living in the college district, which includes most of Malheur County, as well as Huntington in Baker County. The district boundaries exclude Ironside, Juntura, Jordan Valley, Arock and McDermitt.
Applicants should submit a letter of interest, up to two pages long, detailing their background and interest in serving on the board. Materials are due by Tuesday, July 9, and should be sent to Gina Roper, TVCC board secretary.
Abby Lee, college spokeswoman, said board members are unpaid positions at the college whose primary roles include selecting the college president, developing policies, setting tuition costs and fees, adopting the annual budget, and other tasks.
Board members attend monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month and may also be asked to serve on subcommittees, she said.
