Ontario High School seniors ready for diplomas

ONTARIO – Ontario High School’s Class of 2019 wraps up the series of high school graduations in Malheur County this week.

The graduate claim their diplomas in a ceremony starting at 7 p.m. this Wednesday at the high school.

Leading the class are 25 valedictorians:

  • Lybee Allis Bell, daughter of Sandee and Darin Bell, was active in FBLA, Elite Choir, Drama Club, Tri-M Music Honor Society president, National Honor Society. She plans to attend Brigham Young University-Idaho and major in art and biological secondary education.

• Capri Paisley Bezona, daughter of Amy and Lonnie Bezona, has been in National Honor Society, FFA, and Idaho High School Rodeo Association. She plans to attend Treasure Valley Community College with a rodeo scholarship, going on to obtain a bachelor’s degree and study medicine toward becoming an emergency room nurse.

• Maria Magdalena Cuevas, daughter of Ninfa and Pedro Miranda, was active in cheerleading, Honor Society, FHLA and leadership. She plans to study special education at Western Oregon University.

• Landon Richard Curtis, son of Heather and Casey Curtis, was active in FBLA, Honor Society, and played tennis, football, golf and basketball. He plans to study engineering at Boise State University.

• Kiera Morgann Dwyer, daughter of Tawna and Michael Dwyer, participated in varsity cheer, National Honor Society, FFA as a chapter and district officer, student body and softball. She plans to attend Oregon State University’s Honors College, studying environmental economics and policy, and go on to law school to be an attorney focusing on agricultural law.

• Aliyah Rae Favela, daughter of Lupita Villa and Ruben Favela, participated in cheerleading, Leadership and Associated Student Body, National Honor Society, and FHLA. She plans to attend Western Oregon University to study political science.

• Joseph Lee Fleener, son of Maria and Michael Fleener, played football. His college plans were undecided at the time of the form submission.

• Paul Chris Gering III, son of Tracy and Paul Gering, was involved in marching band and National Honor Society. He plans to attend College of Idaho for a degree in chemistry, and minor in political science, music and history.

• Jaelen Abigail Grove, daughter of Angena and Shawn Grove, was active in FBLA, National Honor Society and kept wrestling stats. She plans to take a gap year in Bosnia and Herzegovina on an exchange program scholarship, and then attend Utah State University and major in aviation technology.

• Easton Kathaleen Hartley, daughter of Erin and Chad Hartley, participated in Elite Choir, ASB Leadership, FFA, track and field, volleyball, FBLA, Tri-M Music Honors Society and National Honor Society. She plans to finish her associate degree at Treasure Valley Community College, serve a church mission, and continue her education toward a dental hygiene degree.

• Dallon Gary Haueter, son of Corky and Mark Haueter, played football and basketball. He plans to attend Brigham Young University and will serve a two year church mission in Jacksonville, Florida.

• Sampson Anthony King, son of Katie Loving and Kenny King, participated in track and Parli Pro FFA. He plans to become a certified TIG welder and work for a local welding business.

• Tachoda James Lehman, son of Laurie and Brule Lehman, plans to finish his associate’s degree at Treasure Valley Community College and transfer to a college to earn a degree in computer science, and become a software engineer.

• Brenda Lara-Mendez, daughter of Norma and Javier Mendez, has been involved in FHLA, Honor Society, SMILE Club and played soccer. She plans to attend Eastern Oregon University and major in sociology.

• Aylin Navarrete-Bacerril, daughter of Susana Becerril and Alfredo Navarrete, has been in cheerleading, NHS, FHLA, Leadership and Be the Change. She plans to finish her associate’s degree at Treasure Valley Community College and transfer to Oregon State University, major in biology and study dermatology.

• Joshua Elvis Navarrete, son of Rosa and Rick Navarrete, was in FFA and FBLA and played basketball and baseball. He plans to attend WyoTech in Laramie, Wyoming, and focus on diesel mechanics.

• Lillian Renee Olsen, daughter of CarolAnn and Jerry Burdan, was in National Honor Society. She plans to attend Treasure Valley Community College for a nursing degree, with a goal of working in a hospital emergency room. 

• Harlee Jo Pearson, daughter of Michelle and Duane Pearson, participated in NHS and FFA, and played volleyball, basketball and golf. She plans to serve a church mission, attend TVCC and get a degree in soil science and environmental services, and become a soil conservationist.

• Victoria D. Roberts, daughter of Paula and Jason Roberts, was a U.S. Senate page, and participated in tennis, marching band, and FBLA. She plans to study general economics in college and intern for U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici in the summers.

• Colton Ray Seal, son of Debbie and Stacey Seal, was in National Honor Society and played baseball, football and basketball. He plans to attend Columbia Basin College for a degree in accounting.

• Leslie Silva, daughter of Maria Ulloa and Omar Silva, was in National Honor Society and cheerleading, and played softball. She plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Eastern Oregon State University and a master’s for school counseling. 

• Katelyn Faith Tensen, daughter of Shelly Tensen, participated in FBLA and FFA. She plans to attend Montana State University and study equine science and agricultural education.

• Anna Lisa Vogt, daughter of Tammy and James Vogt, was involved in National Honor Society, HSAC, and played volleyball and basketball. She plans to attend Boise State University, major in pre-med and minor in ASL, and become a surgeon.

• Brenna Lynn Vogt, daughter of Tammy and James Vogt, has been involved in National Honor Society, HSAC, and played basketball, volleyball and golf. She plans to study business at Boise State University and wants to start a nonprofit organization for childhood cancer research.

• Natalie Joy Wyborney, daughter of Jeannine and Steve Wyborney, was active in FFA, band and National Honor Society. She plans to attend Northwest Nazarene University and major in sport/recreation management.
