Teams from across the region compete in Nyssa’s Don Walker Invite

Adrian’s Logan Griffin takes to the air in the Triple Jump event at the Don Walker Invitational Friday in Nyssa. Twenty prep track teams participated in the invitational.

NYSSA – The Nyssa boys and girls track and field teams both finished second Friday at the Don Walker Invitational held at Nyssa High School.

Hundreds of athletes representing 20 schools from eastern Oregon and Idaho competed. 

Emmett’s track team placed first while Burns took third in the boys’ meet. In the girls’ competition, Burns finished at the top and Grant Union of John Day placed third.

NYSSA

The Bulldogs track and field team had 25 top-five finishes and both the boys and girls teams had winners.

On the boys side, Roberto Amezquita won the 100 (11.49) and the 200 (23.47).

Amezquita also ran in the 4×100 relay with Mario Gramajo, Landon McDowall and Ethan Draper to clinch first place.

Other strong finishes came from Landon McDowall, who finished in fourth in the 200 (24.07) and Pedro Chavez placed third in the 800 (2:07.55). Jose Sanchez posted two season records as he placed second in shotput (44-00.50) and third in javelin (143-04). Nyssa’s Kaleb Draper placed third in the pole vault (11-06.00).

On the girls side, Olivia Page won the 3000-meter race, Marly Ausman came in first in shotput, and Madisyn Hartley finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump. 

Samantha Moore finished second in both shotput and javelin, while Sara Stevens vaulted to a height of 9-feet and took second. 

ADRIAN

The Adrian boys and girls track and field teams turned in several strong showings at the Friday meet.

On the girls’ side, Roby Young placed first in the 200 (27.21) and posted a new personal best in the 100-meter dash after she finished third with a 13.75. Shayla Griffin came in second in the 100 and third in the 200. 

Griffin also ran with Lizzy Nielson, Kenzie Sorrell and Riley Lucas in the 4×100 relay and finished second.

In the boys’ meet, Adrian freshman Conley Martin finished sixth in the 100 and 200 sprints and took third in the 400, setting new personal bests in all three events.

VALE

On the boys’ side, Viking Thayer Williams set a new season record in the 400 after he placed first with 52.38. Brock Payne broke his own shot put record after he threw 45 feet and won the event.

In girls’ competition, Mattie Siddoway posted a new personal record when she placed first in the 400 in 1:02.30. Caroline Bruton also set a new personal best in javelin after throwing 104-feet-2. Morgan Harrison recorded a season best when she came in second in the high jump.

HARPER

Harper’s Morgan Butler ran 23.71 in the 200 and came in second with a personal record best. Butler also finished fourth in the 100-meter dash and placed first in discus. Corbin Palmer jumped 40-feet-2 to finish second in the triple jump and finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
