Ontario group plans town hall meeting this Wednesday

ONTARIO – Eddy Pearcy-Thiel believes knowledge is power.

That is why the longtime Ontario resident – with help from Freddy Rodriguez, an Ontario city councilor – decided to spearhead a community town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Four Rivers Cultural Center.

The meeting is sponsored by Thiel’s civic group, Citizens Coalition of Ontario. The primary reason for the session, said Thiel, is informing the public about key issues such as the proposed Ontario School District bond.

“We want the citizens of Ontario to know what is going on,” said Thiel.

Thiel said members of the Ontario City Council, representatives from the Ontario School District and the newly-created Ontario Recreation District will be on hand to answer questions from the audience.

Thiel said officials will be divided up into three panels consisting of city council members, school district officials and members of the recreation district. Each will provide a 10-minute presentation.

Thiel said the meeting is possible through the work of several people, including Ontario City Manager Adam Brown.

Thiel said she hopes the community meetings become popular.

“This will be a way to better connect the citizens with the city council and we want to do a series of town hall meetings,” said Thiel.
