Marshalls prepares for Ontario grand opening

The Marshalls store at 1648 E. Idaho Ave., Ontario, is prepping to open its doors next week. (The Enterprise/Pat Caldwell).

ONTARIO – Last week, Marshalls store manager Sam Combs was busy directing his employees as they positioned merchandise and put the finishing touches on a floor design for Ontario’s newest business.

Combs said he was enjoying every moment.

“It is fun watching the store go from completely empty to fully stocked,” said Combs.

The interior of the store will be open with no walls between different departments, said Combs.

The grand opening for Marshalls is set for Thursday, April 4, said Combs.

“We have men’s clothes, women’s clothes, clothes for kids, toys, shoes cosmetics and medium-sized furniture and bedding and bath products,” said Combs.

Combs said he began work for Marshalls 12 years ago in the Portland area.

“I had never been to Ontario before or the Idaho area,” said Combs.

Combs said he likes Ontario and is eager to open the store.

Combs said Marshalls already showcases stores in Meridian and Boise and the Ontario location was a logical move.

“The natural growth (in the Boise area) looks like it is coming this way and Marshalls wanted to be part of that,” said Combs.

Combs said the store was popular with job seekers. He already hired about 90 people, he said.

“We had close to 500 applicants,” said Combs.

There are more than 1,000 Marshalls stores in 42 states and Puerto Rico and 61 stores in Canada.

Combs said the company isn’t worried about the store’s long-term success.

“They are pretty sure the area will support this,” said Combs.
