Sports gear drive and Shrove pancake supper on tap for Vale

VALE – Local families are invited to gather up their unused baseball and softball equipment and donate it to a good cause this Saturday.

Vale High School senior Breyden Lande is hosting a baseball and softball equipment drive for his senior project. He’ll take donations from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Logan’s Market parking lot. 

The drive is in collaboration with Vale Youth Baseball. The equipment will be cleaned and given to youngsters in the program who can’t afford to purchase their own gear.

Anyone who wants to donate but can’t make it at that time can contact Lande at 541-212-6431 for pickup. 

• A Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is on the calendar for next Tuesday, March 5, at Vale Community Methodist Church, marking the beginning of Lent.

The supper will be served by the men of the church from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

There is no charge for the meal, but donations will be accepted. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee.

Anyone interested in helping or donating food for the meal may contact Dave or Bonnie Westerberg at 541-473-2558.

• St Patrick’s Catholic Church Altar Society will serve soup for donations at a soup supper Tuesday, March 19, a Lenten season fundraiser that reaches outside the U.S. Soup is served from 4 to 7 p.m. This year’s soup fundraiser will benefit a family in Kenya whose home needs a new roof due to severe water damage.
