Richard “Dick” Baker Scott

Nov. 10, 1928 ~ Feb. 14, 2019

After 90 years, God allowed Richard “Dick” Baker Scott to enter his kingdom on Feb. 14, 2019. On Valentine’s Day, he went to hold hands with his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Dorothy Mae. He was a minister of God’s word for approximately 72 years and had continued preaching until just a few months before he left this world.

Dick was born on November 10, 1928 to John David and Ethel Mae “Baker” Scott in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Meline on December 14, 1947 in Julesburg, Colorado.

After committing their lives to each other, they moved to Boise so they could attend Boise Bible College. While attending they began their Christian ministry and had their first daughter, Rhonda. After graduating, Dick, Dorothy and Rhonda moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to serve in a local church. While ministering in Colorado Springs, their second daughter, Radene was born. Shortly after, they were called to move their growing family to Sturgis, South Dakota, to serve as a minister to the Church of Christ. During their seven years of service in Sturgis, they had their third and fourth daughters, ReVona and Ricarda.

Their ministry took them many places after Sturgis and grew to include: Kingsford, Michigan; Glendive, Montana; Vale, Oregon; Enterprise, Oregon; Garibaldi, Oregon; Pendleton, Oregon; Weiser, Idaho; Boise, Idaho (Managers of the Boise Christian Retirement Village); Ontario, Oregon (Sunrise Christian Church); and back to Boise to reside and share God’s word once again at the Boise Christian Retirement Village.

Dick will be greatly missed by all of those that have been blessed to know him and whose lives he had touched. Dick is rejoicing in heaven with Dorothy, his beloved wife, and many friends and family that went on before him.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his Dad and Mom and three brothers, Clyde, Donald, and Glen. He is survived by four daughters and their husbands; Rhonda (Raymond) DeLoe, Radene (Phil) Terry, ReVona (Larry) Neis, and Ricarda (Mark) Hargrove; his sister Donna Perry, his sister-in-law Glenice Williams; as well as 12 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life will be at Boise Bible College on March 2 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers: Memorials may be given to the Boise Bible College – Richard Scott Memorial Scholarship.

Barbara (Bobbie) Neil Maggard

Feb. 16, 1944~ Feb. 16, 2019

Barbara (Bobbie) Neil Maggard was born in Ontario, Oregon, on Feb. 16, 1944, to Vern and Linden Atkins. She passed away on Feb. 16, 2019.

Growing up in Vale, Bobbie was well known for her beautiful smile and sweet personality. She loved her time as a Vale High School cheerleader and working in her grandparents’ drug store in Vale.

After high school, Bobbie attended Boise Junior College and Treasure Valley Community College, majoring in home economics. She married Ralph Taghon, her high school sweetheart, in 1964. She and Ralph had two children, Laura and Curtis. Bobbie was a dedicated mother and homemaker. Following the death of Ralph, Bobbie was a single mother until she was set up on a blind date with Lonnie Maggard, a widower with two daughters, Lisa and Melissa. Following a 13-day whirlwind romance, Bobbie and Lonnie were married and began 42 years of happiness. Bobbie deeply loved all four of her children and was always busy baking or sewing.

Over the years, Bobbie worked for Agri-Lines, Riverside Irrigation District and as a teacher’s aide for Parma High School COSSA where she enjoyed being around the students. She was Lonnie’s partner in their farming business, keeping the financial records and being there to help with whatever he needed. She loved gardening and living in the Roswell area, although she always remained a “Vale Girl” at heart.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lynn Atkins, and her first husband, Ralph Taghon. She is survived by her husband Lonnie; daughter Laura Kubinski; daughter Lisa and her husband Bill Lavin; son Curtis and his wife Sonia Maggard; and daughter Melissa and her husband Wayne Andersen. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Laressa Landers, Kaylee Lavin, Shaun Andersen and Ian Lavin, and one great-granddaughter, RaeLynn Landers. The oldest daughter in her family, Bobbie is survived by her younger sisters, Mary Lou McLaughlin and Toni Lamb, and brother John Atkins.

The family is sincerely grateful to Lenity Senior Living in Caldwell for the endless amount of love and support that they showered on Bobbie. In the short time that she was in their care, the amount of comfort and support that she and our family received was obvious every day, and she formed friendships with many of the residents.

It is Bobbie’s wishes that she be cremated, and a private ceremony will be held at a later date. Remembrances may be shared at dakanfuneralchapel.com. Memorial donations may be made to Vale High School Association’s scholarship fund at P.O. Box 274, Vale, OR 97918. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
