Celebrate Groundhog Day, buy a book and go dance

VALE – The annual Groundhog Dinner is coming up Saturday at the Catholic Parish Hall in Vale.

Sponsored by the St. Patrick’s Men’s Club, the dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children age 5-12, and $30 is the immediate family rate.

Meals also will be available for take-out.

• The Vale City Emma Humphrey Library will hold a book sale next week at the library, 150 A. St. E.

Hours will be 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, Feb. 6 and 8, and 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.

The sale is intended to remove some older material from the shelves, making room for new items for the collection.

• The Vale Alumni Association is accepting nominations of individuals to be inducted this year into the Hall of Fame.

The nomination form is printed in this week’s Enterprise. The form touches on three categories for recognition: an exemplary career, dedication to community service, and actions that help put Vale “on the map.”

The inductees will be recognized at the alumni association’s annual Hall of Fame banquet in October.

For more information, call Bobbi Buttice, 541-823-2900.

• The Vale Senior Center will hold a dance Saturday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Town and Country Band will play.

Admission is $6, and the event will include a potluck meal.

The center, at 100 Longfellow St. S., also offers midday meals at 12 noon each Monday and Wednesday; card games from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and pinochle at 6 p.m. on Friday, with a potluck during that session.

Vale’s Distinguished Citizen award winners will be honored at a dinner March 16 at Vale High School.

Awards are given in six categories: commercial business, elementary educator, volunteer, agricultural business, high school educator, and public servant.
