Nyssa couple delivers county’s first baby of the year

Parents Berenise Salgado and Lorenzo Fuentes of Nyssa welcomed their new son at the Saint Alphonsus Medical Center, Ontario at 3:54 a.m. on New Years Day.

ONTARIO – As residents turned in for the night after a night of New Years libations and celebrations, Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario welcomed the first baby born in 2019.

About three hours and 54 minutes after midnight, 23-year-old Berenise Salgado and 29-year-old Lorenzo Fuentes of Nyssa welcomed their new son at the Ontario hospital.

At 19 inches long, little Salgado Fuentes weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and joins his 3-year-old sister Yatziry Cristal Fuentes-Salgado.

His parents are still deciding between two names for their son, according to Olivia Sorensen, director of marketing and foundation at Saint Alphonsus.

His parents received “a basket filled with baby clothes, diapers, blankets, Alphonzo Bear and other items” from the hospital.
