An Eagle Scout lends a helping hand to Nyssa cemetery

Congratulations to Howard Rushton on receiving his Eagle Scout award.

Howard’s Eagle project consisted of assembling a group to assist Nyssa Hilltop Memorial Cemetery with cleanup following last May’s vandalism and destruction of many monuments. Howard also helped the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 79 decorate for Memorial Day, returning after Memorial Day to collect the flags and crosses. In June, Howard organized a volunteer crew to clean up the cemetery, removing dead flowers.

Well done, Howard! You are a great asset to our community.

• Main Street in Nyssa was lined with parade watchers for the annual Nyssa Nite Lite Christmas Parade. The weather was cool but dry, making it a great evening for the parade.

Thank you to all the groups and individuals who created floats, rode horses or otherwise contributed to a wonderful parade. A big thank you as well to all the volunteers who helped continue this annual tradition.

• Main Street looks beautiful with garlands and lights on the light poles. Take a drive around town and enjoy the many homes with lights and decorations.

• The Nyssa School District Music Department will present a band concert at 7 p.m. this Thursday in the high school auditorium.

• The monthly meeting of the Nyssa Senior Citizens will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 11:30 a.m., with a Christmas potluck at noon. Side dishes and desserts are requested; the main meal will be provided.
