Nyssa council member leaves post

NYSSA – Pat Brewer said she decided to step down from her position on the Nyssa City Council because it was time to let someone else serve the city.

“I am going to miss it but it was high time,” said Brewer last week.

Brewer, a Nyssa resident since 1978, resigned from her spot on the council during its regular meeting Nov. 13.

“I will miss it. I am one of those people who likes to be hands on,” said Brewer.

Brewer, 84, said she is also grappling with some health issues and “before anything got worse, it was time to resign.”

Brewer was a fixture on the council. First elected to a council slot in the early 1990s, Brewer stepped away from the political life in 2001 but ran and was elected again in 2005.

“I’ve been on there more than 20 years,” she said.

Brewer said she is proud of her work on behalf of the residents of Nyssa.

“We have accomplished a lot in our town but we need to get young people in there,” said Brewer.

The city is still taking letters of interest from city residents to replace Brewer. The deadline on letters of interest is 5 p.m. Dec. 11. To be eligible, interested individuals must be a resident of Nyssa for six months and live within the city limits.
