Lela “Fern” Palmer

Lela “Fern” Palmer 88, of Harper, Oregon, passed away in Vale on Thursday, June 28, with her daughter by her side.

Fern was born July 29, 1929, in Sasser, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Cecil and Polly Tuttle. She was raised in Kentucky as a young girl until 1942, when the family moved to Oregon, settling in Juntura. Fern married Ben Palmer in 1950 in Winnemucca, Nevada, and settled in Harper. They had two children, Myrduth and Carroll.

Fern was a homemaker, and very active in the Harper Church of Nazarene and lived the gospel to the fullest. In later years she enjoyed all her grandkids with all of their sports and 4-H activities.

She is survived by her daughter, Myrt Leuck (Alan) of Vale, and son Carroll Palmer of Harper; brothers, Ray Tuttle and Cecil Thearl Tuttle (Margaret) of Harper, James Tuttle (Ruth) of Vale; and sister Verda Bertalotto of Ontario; along with six grandkids Dave, Darin, Deanna, Ben, Cathy, and Eilene. She had numerous nieces and nephews, great-grandkids and one great-great-grandkid. She was proceeded in death by her parents and sister Shilla, her husband Ben, and great-grandson Jacob Hill.

Her graveside service was held July 5 at the Valley View Cemetery in Vale. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Harper Church of Nazarene.

Doris Frances Standage (Boren)

November 29, 1931 ~ August 13, 2018

Doris Frances Standage (Boren), 86, passed away August 13 in a local care facility.

Doris was born November 29, 1931, in Mobeetie, Texas, to Bruce and Beatrice Boren. At an early age, the family moved to Portland, Oregon, where her father worked in the shipyards during World War II. Following that, they moved to Willowcreek, where they cleared land to establish a homestead and begin farming. Around 1946, they moved to a farm in Vale, where Doris attended school. After graduation from high school, she married Darrell Standage in 1951. To that marriage was born four children: Ronda, Robert, Patty, and Tami.

Doris had many creative talents that included oil painting, pottery and other artistic outlets. She was an avid gardener, loved flowers, and always had a beautiful yard and garden plot. Later in life she was active with the Red Hat Society and enjoyed those outings.

Doris is survived by her husband of 67 years, Darrell; daughters Ronda Zigler, Patty (Jerry) Harmon, Tami (John) Stout; daughter-in-law MaryAnn, grandchild Michelle; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her father Bruce Henry Boren; mother Beatrice Boren (Seay); brothers HB, Jerry, Jackie Carrol; son Robert Standage; and grandson Matthew Standage.

At her request, there will be no funeral. Graveside service was held at Valley View Cemetery in Vale on Friday, August 17.

Ennis B.D. Haynes

Born August 6, 1973 

Weiser, Idaho

Passed August 9, 2018 

Boise, Idaho

Ennis had a personality that was as big as his heart. He would fill the room with laughter and smiles wherever he was.

Ennis and his family moved to Vale, Oregon, when he was 6 years old. He attended school in the Vale School District and graduated from Vale High School in 1991.

Ennis married Kellie Hyde on August 12, 2000. This union was blessed with their only child, Rickie Blaine Haynes, on November 23, 2004. Spending time with Rickie was Ennis’ number one priority. He took him fishing, hunting and four-wheeling, just to mention a few, when they were together.

Ennis loved the Haynes’ family farm and cabin. His next favorite place was the Selway River where he went every year in November with his son Rickie, father Rick, brother Ezra, and the Scotts (Gene, Jerod and Justin).

When Ennis was not outdoors, he was a dedicated leader of “World of Tanks Gaming Community Clan.”

Ennis is survived by his father, Rick (Cynthia) Haynes; mother, Marilyn (Jack) Helm; brothers, Ezra (Michelle) Haynes; and Brent Severe; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and many more nieces and nephews; also, his best friend and confidant – “Danielle Sturtevant Hart.” To honor Ennis’ wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.
