Members of the Class of 2018 gather beneath the big O for Ontario High.
ONTARIO – A passel of valedictorians are leading the Class of 2018 at Ontario High School to graduation.
The commencement ceremony will be at 7 p.m. this Wednesday at the school.
Following are the 28 named valedictorians this year:
• Abbey Wood participated in track and field, National Honor Society, FBLA, student government, Model UN Club, HSAC, and Be the Change. She plans to attend George Fox University and major in cellular and molecular biology, pre-med, and then go to medical school and become a psychiatrist. Her parents are Jason and Lindsay Wood.
• Adam Hawker, son of Paul and Rhonda Hawker, played football, basketball and baseball and participated in FBLA, FFA, National Honor Society, and HSAC. He plans to attend George Fox University to study mechanical engineering and will play football for the Bruins.
• Alan Chew, who will go to Oregon State University to study engineer, participated in track, cross country, wrestling, FBLA, FHLA, FFA, HSAC, SMILE and student government. Parents are Wayne and Winnie Chew.
• Alanna Stark plans to go to the College of Idaho to pursue a degree in medical science. Daughter of Anita and Noel Stark, she participated in FFA, Honor Society, cross country, track and field, and golf.
• Alexia Navarrete, daughter of Rick and Rose Navarrete, participated in FBLA, HSAC, Be the Change, volleyball and basketball. She plans to attend OSU and study psychology and Spanish.
• Aline Sanchez-Leon will go to OSU to major in bio-health sciences and minor in Spanish and become a nurse practitioner. Daughter of Candelaria Leon, she participated in SMILE, soccer, FHLA and Honor Society.
• Andy Sanchez, son of Salvador and Romelia Sanchez, participated in FBLA. He plans to attend the College of Idaho with a goal of becoming a physical therapist and playing a lot of soccer.
• Anna Leathers, daughter of Brook and Jeremy Leathers, plans to go to Treasure Valley Community College and plans to earn a degree in nursing and become a pediatric nurse. She participated in volleyball, softball, FBLA, HSAC and Honor Society.
• Ashlee Hill plans to attend Oregon Institute for Medical Laboratory Science. Daughter of Kim and Steve Hill, she was ASB secretary, Science Club president, and participated in Honor Society.
• Ashleigh Brown participated in band, drama club/International Thespian Society as vice president, and Honor Society. Parents are Adam and Angela Brown. She plans to attend Brigham Young University to attain a degree in theater education.
• Brenda Trejo, daughter of Maria and Javier Trejo, participated in FHLA, Honor Society, HSAC, soccer, basketball and Be the Change. She will attend Treasure Valley Community College for an associate’s degree and transfer to a four-year school. She wants to become a dentist.
• Caleb Wilson, son of Whitney Wilson, plans to attend OSU and study computer science. He was involved in Honor Society, Culinary Club as president, Robotics Club and tennis, as captain.
• Denis Benitez Martinez, who plans to attend OSU, participated in SMILE, FHLA, Be the Change, Honor Society and soccer. Parents are Maria and Jose Benitez.
• Elena Chavez, daughter of Ruben and Rachel Chavez, plans to attend Eastern Oregon University and be in ROTC, with a goal of joining the military and becoming a physician assistant. She was involved in Honor Society, FBLA, softball and basketball.
• Gian Alvarado, son of Mirta Diaz, plans to study math and business in college. He participated in drama.
• Hailey Mooney, daughter of Jason and Stephanie Mooney, plans to attend TVCC and study dental hygiene. She played volleyball, basketball and track, and participated in Honor Society, HSAC, FBLA and Be the Change.
• Jacinto Carrasco will go to University of Oregon to major in human physiology and then attend medical school and become a pediatrician. Activities included SMILE, Science Club as vice president, Honor Society vice president, and FFA. Parents are Dionisio and Melissa Carrasco.
• Jacqueline Cuevas Cuna, daughter of Hector and Leticia Cuevas, plans to major in kinesiology and minor in Spanish at OSU, and become a physical therapist working in public health. She was in NHS, Science Math Investigative Learning Experience, FHLA, FBLA, Health Occupations Students of America, Be the Change, HSAC, student government, cross country and tennis.
• Jannette Armas, daughter of Maria Arnas, plans to go to OSU and attain a degree in pre-veterinary sciences and then go to veterinary school. She participated in SMILE, FBLA, HSAC, Math Club, Honor Society, track and cross country.
• Jessica Jagelski plans to go to Creighton University, majoring in neuroscience, and then attend medical school. Daughter of Bruno and Stephanie Jagelski, she was volleyball co-captain, basketball co-captain, FBLA president, and also in Honor Society, pep band, concert band, track and marching band.
• Joshua Kathriner, son of Christopher and Melinda Kathriner, will attend TVCC for an associate’s degree, transfer to a four-year school, serve a church mission, and work as a computer or software programmer. He was in Tiger Marching Band, pep and concert band, and Honor Society.
• Justine Cheatham, who participated in FFA, plans to attend Aveda Institute in Boise and obtain an esthetician license. Parents are Margarita and Joe Cheatham.
• Leslie Nunez-Munoz, who plans to go to OSU to become a physician assistant, participated in HSAC, soccer and track. Parents are Leticia and Cesar Nunez.
• Michael Austin Crockett, son of Mike and Tricia Crockett, plans to attend OSU and study computer engineering. He participated in Honor Society and FBLA, as chapter vice president.
• Quinn Susuki, who will go to OSU to study bio-engineering, participated in track, cross country, wrestling, FBLA, HSAC, FFA, and Japanese Club. Parents are Jennifer and Larry Susuki.
• Taylee Larson, who plans to attend Boise State University toward a career as a labor and delivery nurse, participated in Honor Society, HSAC, track and basketball. Parents are Oliver and Ashley Larson.
• Tyler Tamez, son of Jose Tamez and Leticia Reyna, will attend University of Oregon toward a degree in journalism and communications. He participated in ASB as vice president, Honor Society, FHLA historian, and choir.
• Zoee Kinney, who will attend University of Idaho toward a degree in business and a career as a lawyer, participated in FFA, Be the Change, leadership, Honor Society and HSAC. Parents are Joe and Tammy Kinney.
