Nyssa Roundup: A&W Cruise Night, cemetery cleanup, and graduation are on the agenda

Families and well-wishers will be cleaning up at the cemetery and decorating in preparation for the traditional Memorial Day observances.

NYSSA – We had a fun weekend, attending the Big Loop Rodeo in Jordan Valley.

It was a little different this year – We didn’t worry too much about sunburn, instead bundled up in rain gear. It was still a great weekend!

Jordan Valley starts our personal rodeo season which includes the Nyssa Nite Rodeo in June and the Vale 4th of July Rodeo.

• Friday is the first A&W Cruise Night of the year. Registration opens at 5 p.m., followed by the show at 6. Cars will be parked on 6th Avenue, the west side of A&W.

There will be food, fun for all ages, ‘50s music, fun kids activities and great cars.

• This Friday at 9 a.m., a cleanup crew will assemble at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery to clean the veteran’s section of the cemetery. Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, brooms and rakes.

The St. Bridget Youth Group is collecting artificial flowers to decorate graves where there is no family in the area to provide decorations. People can take flower donations to the St. Bridget Catholic Church office, 504 Locust Ave. It is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Memorial Day services start at 11 a.m. on Monday, followed by a service at Stringer Landing on the Snake River for those who died at sea. The cemetery clean-up and services are hosted by Nyssa’s American Legion Post #79 and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

• Nyssa High School Graduation takes place at 1 p.m. Sunday in the gym. Congratulations to the Class of 2018!

• Attention NHS alumni! If your class is holding a reunion this summer, please send me an e-mail or give me a call with the details.
