Lawrence Raymond “Larry” Mendiola, 84, of Vale died April 19, 2018, at a local assisted living facility.

Larry Mendiola was born October 3, 1933, in Winnemucca, Nevada, to Joe D. Mendiola and Mary Lisa Mendiola.

They moved to Harper in 1936. Larry graduated from Harper in 1952. He worked for the Forest Service and State Highway Department. He served in the Army and was in Korea from 1950-1955. Larry married Dottie McLaughlin in December 1956. He went to barber school in 1958 and barbered for 50 years. He farmed and raised cattle for 60 years and had a gravel business for 25 years.

Larry was a member of the American Legion for 60 years. He served with the Lions, Elks, Rodeo Board, and ran fire crews for BLM. Larry was Grand Marshal for the Vale 4th of July celebration in 2007. He was married to Dottie for 61 years.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Mary Mendiola, brother Paul, baby brother Martin and sister Cathrine.

Larry is survived by his wife Dottie; son Joe, and Diana; Rawley and Lili; son Jim and Joy; son Jeff and Stephanie; and Ryan, Andrew, Emily and Megan; brother George and sister Joan Anderson; sister-in-law Mona Mendiola; several nieces, nephews and cousins in Nevada.

DEATHS:

Symona “Monie” Lee Maire, 65, of Vale died Apr. 28 in Nampa, Idaho. Celebration of life will be at Vale Waleigh Park Saturday, May 19, 12 to 3 p.m., potluck.

John William “Bill” Keele, 68, of Ontario died Apr. 26 at home. Arrangements by Lienkaemper Chapel, Ontario.
