Vale Baseball

 THE GAMES: The Viking baseball team picked up some league wins, first downing Nyssa, 20-0 on Tuesday, April 10. Playing at home last Friday, the Viks swept Riverside in two games. Vale took the first game 8-0 and downed the Pirates 14-2 in game two. 

HIGHLIGHTS: In the victory over Nyssa, Kade Haueter and Cade Perry combined for 5 hits and 9 RBIs. Haueter was 2-for-3 while Perry was a perfect 3-for-3. 

In game one against Riverside, Matt McBride was on the mound, giving up 4 hits and picking up 8 strikeouts. Game two saw Karson Brown and Colton Kesey on the mound. The duo gave up 2 hits in the 5-inning game and put up 8 strikeouts. 

In the three games for the week, Brown and Keegan Mizuta recorded 4 RBIs. Cody Ross ended his week with 3 RBIs. 

COACH’S COMMENTS: “We as a team have been really swinging the bats pretty well,” said Vale coach Rick Yraguen. “Over the last few games we have hit it pretty good but none better than Cade Perry. He has really got it going right now.” 

RECORD: 4-1 Eastern Oregon League, 6-4 overall. 

NEXT UP: The Vikings were scheduled to host Weiser this Tuesday. Due to press time, results were unavailable. Vale returns to league action on Friday, hitting the road for two games against Umatilla (0-4 league, 4-5 overall). In nonleague action on Monday, April 23, Vale welcomes New Plymouth for a 5 p.m. game. 

NOTEWORTHY: With the week’s action, the Vikings are second in the league standings, behind Stanfield/Echo with a perfect 5-0 record. The Vikings meet the Tigers in the last two games of the season.

 THE MATCHES: Hitting the courts in Special District 4 play, the Ontario team downed La Grande 8-4 on Monday, April 9. Ontario lost 10-1 to Weiser last Thursday on the Weiser courts.

COACH’S COMMENTS: “After a tough loss against Vale, I was really proud of the way my players came back for the win against La Grande,” said Ontario Coach Beanne Bakken. 

NEXT UP: Nyssa was scheduled to travel to Ontario on Tuesday. Due to press time, results were unavailable. La Grande will revisit Ontario on Wednesday and on Friday the Tigers travel to Parma. Ontario will be on the Nyssa courts next Tuesday in district action.

Nyssa Baseball

 THE GAMES: The Bulldogs continued to struggle, dropping four games this past week. Nyssa fell to Vale 20-0 on Tuesday, April 10, in Eastern Oregon League play. On the road last Thursday, the Dawgs saw Weiser take an 11-1 victory. The Bulldogs traveled to Ontario on Saturday to host two league games versus Stanfield/Echo. Nyssa lost 13-1 and 22-10.

RECORD: 1-4 Eastern Oregon League, 1-14 overall.

NEXT UP: With the sun out and the sod seeding, Nyssa is expected to open play on the Bulldog field Friday, hosting Joseph/Enterprise/Wallowa (2-2 league, 9-4 overall) for two games. 

Adrian Track and Field

THE MEET: The Adrian girls finished third in the team standings on Saturday at the Burns Lions Arlie Oster Memorial Invitational.
