Jordan Valley Track and Field

THE MEET: Bumping their team numbers up to 11, the Jordan Valley Mustangs visited Vale on Tuesday, March 20, for the Small School Meet.

HIGHLIGHTS: The boys finished 12th in the team standings while the girls finished 13th. Junior Zeke Quintero was third in the long jump and triple jump.

COACH’S COMMENTS: “We are picking up a few more kids and look good for the upcoming year,” said Jordan Valley coach Chris Elsner. “We have some young kids that will do well this year.”

NEXT UP: Jordan Valley will compete Friday, April 6, at the Prairie City Invitational.

Vale Golf

THE MATCH: After playing host to Nyssa, Burns and Ontario for an informal golf meet at the Country View Golf Course on March 20, the Vikings competed in the Parma Invitational on Wednesday, March 21.

TEAM SCORES: The Vale girls finished sixth in Parma. The boys, lacking four players to make a team score, didn’t qualify for a team score.

COACHES COMMENTS: “This was a good effort for all of our kids,” said Vale Coach Tom Snook. “We have some inexperienced kids playing in their first true tournament. All of the kids played well, especially considering the strong winds. The girls played about what they did from last year already so I was pretty pleased. Same with the boys. This was a good start to our tournament season.”

NEXT UP: Vale travels to Pendleton on Friday, April 6, in tournament play.

THE MEET: The Tigers went to Pendleton last Thursday to compete against 20 teams at the Buck Track Classic.

Vale Baseball

THE GAMES: On the road, the Vikings fell to New Plymouth 6-5 on Tuesday, March 20. The home opener against Weiser last Thursday was canceled due to weather.

HIGHLIGHTS: Keegan Mizuta had two RBIs for Vale, with Cade Perry picking up one RBI. Karson Brown took the loss for the Vikings, going six innings.

COACH’S COMMENTS: “We played a pretty good game,” said Vale Coach Rick Yraguen. “Karson should have come out earlier, he just got tired. Keegan came in and pitched great.”

Looking ahead: “We have spring break with no games and start back up the following week with four games, two of those league,” said Yraguen.

RECORD: 1-3 overall.

NEXT UP: Vale will attempt to get a home game on the books, hosting Parma on Monday. On Friday, April 6, the Vikings will be on the road meeting Joseph/Enterprise/Wallowa (4-0 overall) in a double header. On Saturday, April 7, Vale will be in Weiser before returning home on Tuesday, April 10, for a home game against Nyssa (0-7 overall). Start time is 5 p.m.

Nyssa Golf

THE MATCH: After an informal day of golf with Vale, Ontario and Burns at the Country View Golf Course on Tuesday, March 20, the Bulldogs competed in the Parma Invitational last Wednesday, March 21.

TEAM SCORES: The Bulldog girls didn’t have enough players to qualify for a team score. The Nyssa boys, with a combined score of 272, finished sixth.

THE MEET: Harper Charter School athletes traveled to Vale Tuesday, March 20, for the Small Schools Meet hosted by the Vikings.

HIGHLIGHTS: Hornet junior Morgan Butler placed first in both the long jump and discus and second in the triple jump. Freshman Corbin Palmer outdid six runners in the 300-meter hurdles to finish first.

THE MEETS: The Nyssa track team took part in the Vale Small School Meet on Tuesday, March 20, with the boys finishing fifth and the girls sixth in the team scores.

Last Thursday, March 22, the Dawgs traveled to Pendleton for the Buck Track Classic. The girls finished sixth and the boys were seventh.

THE MEET: The Adrian track and field team competed in the Small Schools Meet in Vale on Tuesday, March 20.

HIGHLIGHTS: The Antelope girls finished third, led by first-place finishes by Roby Young and Morgan Bayes. The Adrian boys placed seventh in the team standings, with the relay team of Eduardo Munoz, Ethan Sheets, Wade Bond and Michael Babcock placing second in the 4-by-100 relay.
