Vale city manager resigns

VALE – Embattled Vale City Manager Alan Daniels submitted his letter of resignation late Thursday night after a three-hour closed session of the Vale City Council. He was on the job just two months.

Daniels submitted a one sentence resignation letter: “Effective immediately I resign as city manager of Vale.”

The letter refers to “attachments” but Vale Mayor Mike McLaughlin said no attachments were provided to him.

“I have no comment,” McLaughlin said when questioned about the resignation.

The city council met in executive session as concerns developed about resignation of a city public works employee, an advertisement to replace the employee carrying a salary about $10,000 above the current job, and potentially contracting with a private company to oversee Vale’s new water system.

Daniels couldn’t be reach for comment Friday morning.

He started the job Jan. 8, filling a slot vacated by the retirement of Lynn Findley. Daniels previously worked for the city of Ontario and the state Department of Environmental Quality.
