BAKER – The Jordan Valley girls basketball team ended the run for a state title Thursday in its first state tournament appearance in 18 years.

The Mustangs lost 58-50 loss to Days Creek on Wednesday in quarterfinal play and lost 54-32 to Joseph Thursday in consolation play.

In the first game, the Days Creek Wolves outscored the young Mustang team in every quarter of the game, going inside for 24 of the team’s 58 points.

Jordan Valley never led in the game, but stayed competitive with 76 percent shooting from the free throw line.

Taylor Warn led the Mustangs with 15 points. Kiana Quintero, named player of the game for Jordan Valley, had 10 points as did Regann Skinner. Nicole Terry ended the game with 9 rebounds.

The second game was rougher.

Starting slow and only connecting on 2 of 24 shots for 8 percent in the first half, the Mustangs fell to the Eagles, 54-32.

Shooting suffered all around for the Mustangs as the team could only hit one of 9 attempts from the 3-point line.

Warn led with 8 points. Emilee Burch, named player of the game for the Mustangs, put in 3 points, but picked up 14 rebounds. Skinner and Terry both ended with 7 points.

Jordan Valley had problems defending as Joseph put in 20 points inside the paint.

Jordan Valley did lead by 2 points early in the first quarter, the team’s lone lead in the game.

Jordan Valley ended the season with a 17-13 overall record and a 10-0 High Desert League record.

The Mustangs return all but senior Cheyenne Davis to next year’s squad.
