Two Ontario girls need foster parents in Malheur County

The Enterprise

ONTARIO – Two Ontario girls are looking for a special place to call home, and the state needs the public’s help.

The girls need to be in foster care for reasons the state can’t reveal for privacy reasons. They spent the Christmas with a family that provides temporary respite care but isn’t able to keep the girls long term.

The state Department of Human Services is asking for volunteers who have experience working with or parenting children with special needs.

The agency in a statement described the girls:

DHS has a 13-year-old girl and her 8-year-old sister who need a loving, nurturing and consistent home. Mayra (13) is living with several disabilities and delays and receives special education services. She needs help taking care of her basic needs. Cindy (8) is a busy child. She tries to help take care of her sister. The girls are bonded and would like to stay together. Please consider saying yes to these two lovely ladies!

State officials said they can a nurse can provide training for a family to care for Mayra’s medical needs.

Both girls attend school in the Ontario School District.

The unusual public plea comes as Malheur County experiences a growing count of children removed from their parents for their safety who need foster parents.

To learn about helping Mayra and Cindy, call DHS at 541-889-9194, dial 0, and ask for a foster home certifier.
