FRUITLAND – Fruitland clinched a 7-5 victory over Vale in nonleague tennis action Monday.
The Fruitland boys defeated the Vale boys’ tennis team 4-1, while the Vale girls’ team claimed a 3-2 win.
In girls singles action, Vale’s Autumn Sanchez defeated Fruitland’s Kelsey Fitzimonds, 6-2, 6-2. In girls doubles play, the Vale tandem of Drew Dobney and Abby Hamilton beat Fruitland’s Hannah Hardin and Taylor Phillips, 6-0, 6-1.
Also in girls doubles action, Vale’s Allee Ewing and Alisa Burkhardt beat Fruitland’s Anna Hanigan and Jessica O’Dell, 6-3, 6-1.
In boys doubles play, Vale’s Noah Carlson and Sam McLaughlin defeated Fruitland’s Alex Farmer and McKay Olsen 7-5, 6-2.
In mixed doubles play, Vale’s Alex McBride and Dawson Sumey beat Fruitland’s Britnee Kemble and Alex Becerril, 6-3, 6-1.
“I thought we competed really strong today. For many of our players, I thought we played the best match of the season so far,” Vale tennis coach Ryan Seals said.
On April 5, Vale defeated Ontario, 8-4 with the girls recording a deadlock — 3-3 — and the boys team clinching a 5-1 win.
